We have a current opening for an independent contractor (1099) in the role of Vice President (VP) of Finance. We offer a flexible work schedule from home with local guidance and continued opportunities to expand your knowledge and skillset in our specialized sectors.

Basic function

The VP of Finance will serve as a client lead on a project and be responsible for timely completion of project deliverables, performance to budget, and management of other contractors on the project. The VP of Finance will structure financial management systems and contribute to the development and execution of strategic goals. In addition to the strategic components, the VP will be charged with developing and implementing more sophisticated policies and procedures both in the finance and general operational realms. This is an outstanding opportunity for a finance executive with operational experience and a proven track record of creative problem-solving and working in a rapidly scaling company. The VP of Finance will collaborate closely on strategy and potential fundraising with C-level executives, providing guidance and financial expertise.

What you'll be doing

Principal responsibilities

  • Manage a weekly cash flow model with variance analysis
  • Review income statement for proper recording and allocations to ensure the financials and trial balance are accurate and complete
  • Oversee analysis and publishing of timely monthly financial statements
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances
  • Oversee the preparation of regulatory reporting, both internal and external
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics
  • Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
  • Analyze company's financial results with respect to profits, trends, costs, and compliance with budgets
  • Meet with clients in the Denver metro areas in-person on a periodic basis or as necessary

Required qualifications

  • Proven working experience as a VP of Finance or CFO
  • 15+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience
  • Advanced degree in finance or accounting
  • CPA or CMA strongly preferred
  • Experience with or exposure to the following systems:
    • Excel
    • QuickBooks Online
    • Bill.com
    • Xero
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures and U.S. GAAP
  • Extensive experience with creating financial statements
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, project management and communication skills
  • Experience with SaaS companies is a plus
  • Self-motivation, integrity, and ethical mindset
  • Humility, open mind, and a sense of humor

  • Record proper allocations to ensure the financials and trial balance are accurate and complete
  • Support month-end and year-end close process
  • Prepare monthly financial reports and review for errors and inconsistencies
  • Monthly reconciliation of cash, credit, and accrual accounts
  • Prepare regulatory reporting, both internal and external
